Business brokerage is a great career, but I will be honest- I would never have imagined myself as a broker in 2018! Truthfully, it seemed so complex and difficult that even though the opportunity was right in my face for years, I shied away from brokerage until I was forced into learning more.

Let’s explore this career path so you can decide, “is this something I would like to consider?”

Salon business brokers learn everything they can about the seller’s business, assess a fair market selling price (business valuation) and list the salon for sale. You communicate with buyers, prequalify buyers for good financial standing and coordinate the transaction throughout the sales process.

The qualifications you need to be a salon business broker is a deep understanding of the salon industry, the ability to talk to people and be organized! Brokering skills are  taught and is ongoing knowledge you learn over time, with the right resources, (a good brokerage).

Generally speaking, it is a good idea to obtain a real estate license, should you decide to become a salon business broker, but it is not required. Selling real estate or commercial property is not similar to selling businesses, however, some states require a real estate license to sell a business.

How Much Can I make as a Business Broker?

The industry standard is 10% of the final sales price of a business.  The 10% is then typically split in half, one half goes to brokers and the other half goes to the brokerage.

For example: You sell a $500,000 business. $500,000 sale= $50,000.

Brokers receive $25,000 and the brokerage receives $25,000. Not too bad for a couple weeks worth of work!

Salonspa Connection has several options for owners to sell, we do not limit our brokers to brokerage commissions, only.
